John Madea is is a Japanese American graphic designer, computer scientist, university professor, author and a father of five.   Madea is a  world-renowned graphic.  He was a software engineering student at Massachusetts Institute of technology until he became fascinated with the work of Paul Rand and Muriel Cooper.  Meaea completed his bachelor and master degree at MIT, and completed his Ph.D in design at the Japan Tsukuba University Institute of Art and Design.

He was recognize in 1999 as one of the 21 most important people in the 21st century by  Esquire.  He then receive a National Design Award in 2001 for Communication design in the US and Japan Manichi Design Prize. In 2006 he published his best selling book to date "Laws of Simplicity".

Maeda ads an "A" for Art to the education acronym STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In 2008 John Maeda became the president of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he is dedicated to linking design and technology.  Madea constantly spreads his philosophy of elegant simplicity.  He is a tireless experimenter and a witty observer.
