Massimo Vignelli – born 1931 in Milan,Italy. Vignelli has
done a lot of work in package design and furniture design. He is quoted as
saying “If you can design one thing, you can design everything”, which is shown
in the diversity of his work. Vignelli’s work focuses on the simple approach
with the use of basic geometric forms. Vignelli started architecture in the in
Venice. In 1971, he and his wife opened
Vignelli Associates and work out of their New York office. Vignelli has helped to design the New York
City subway map. Since his venture into
design he has worked in a variety of areas such as interior design, product
design and environmental design. In 2010, Vignelli and his wife opened up the The
Vignelli Center for Design Studies.
This is one of the primary goals of graphic design... to make complex information readily understandable and clear. The New York subway map is a great example of this role the graphic designer plays.
