Chip Kidd was born September 12, 1964 in Reading Pennsylvania and grew up in the suburbs of Shillington.  Kidd was strongly influenced by American popular culture.  He study at Pennsylvania State University.   He currently lives Manhattan upper East side and is currently a Graphic Designer and writer.

Kidd has written two novels his first novel, The Cheese Monkeys, is an academic satire and coming-of-age tale about a college art students who struggle to meet the demands of a sadistic graphic design. The book draws on his real-life experiences during a student at Penn State.  Kidd's second novel, The Learners, finds the protagonist of The Cheese Monkeys drawn into the infamous Milgram experiment.  The novel uses the experiment as an extended metaphor for advertising.  He is a serious collector of Batman merchandise that fills his aparment.  in 2001 he designed and wrote Batman:  Collected  which feature childhood pictures and vintage Batman collection.  Therefore, there is no surprise the announcement made at the New York Comic 2011 that he would be writing Batman: Death by Design.

As a graphic designer he is a cover designer.  James Ellroy an author calls him the world's greatest book-jacket designer.  Publisher weekly described his book jackets as "creepy, striking, smart and unpredictable which makes readers appreciate the books as well as the literature.  While USA today calls him the closest thing to a rock star in graphic design today.
